The 3 S’s of Learning Anything!

S-edited

There are three words of advice that begin with the letter “S” that will apply to mastering anything you want to learn – not just learning to play the dulcimer.

  1. Schedule Regular Practice: Consistent practice is essential for improving your skills and mastering an instrument (or any hobby). Set aside dedicated time each day to practice, even if it's just for a short period. Regular practice helps build muscle memory, improve technique, and enhance overall musicality.

  2. Stick with It: Learning to play an instrument takes time and dedication. It's important to be patient with yourself as you progress through the learning process. Understand that mistakes are a natural part of learning and use them as opportunities to grow and improve. Celebrate small victories along the way and remember that progress is gradual.|

  3. Seek Guidance: Learning from a qualified teacher or mentor can greatly accelerate your progress and help you avoid developing bad habits. A knowledgeable instructor will provide valuable feedback, offer guidance on technique, and tailor lessons to suit your individual learning style. Additionally, connecting with other musicians and seeking inspiration by watching performances on YouTube can further enhance your learning experience.

By incorporating these three S's into your practice routine, you can effectively develop your skills and enjoy the journey of learning to play any instrument.

Happy dulcimering,
Linda
