The New Year’s a-Comin’
As we come to the end of 2023, Steve and I want to encourage you to take some time to recharge and reflect on your musical journey over the past year. To help you with this, we've compiled a list of questions that you can ask yourself to assess your progress and set new goals for the coming year:
- How have I grown as a musician this year? Reflect on the new skills, techniques, or pieces you have mastered, and acknowledge the progress you have made.
- What areas of my playing do I still want to improve upon? Identify specific aspects of your playing that you would like to focus on in the future, such as dynamics, chording, or improvisation.
- Have I challenged myself enough? Consider whether you have stepped out of your comfort zone and explored new musical genres, styles, or techniques. Pushing yourself to try new things can lead to exciting breakthroughs.
- Am I practicing effectively and consistently? Evaluate your practice routine and make adjustments if necessary. Ensure that you are setting aside dedicated time for focused practice and incorporating a variety of exercises and repertoire.
- Have I sought feedback and guidance? Remember there are many dulcimer teachers available to support and guide you. Take advantage of their expertise by seeking feedback and advice on how to improve.
- How can I stay motivated and inspired in the coming year? Explore ways to keep your musical journey engaging and enjoyable. This could involve attending concerts, collaborating with fellow musicians, or setting new performance goals.

As we bid farewell to this year, we are excited to announce that we have some wonderful plans in store for the upcoming year. There will be more virtual QuaranTUNE Festivals and concerts, and workshops and masterclasses at Dulcimer Crossing, and jam sessions in your towns and neighborhoods to provide you with more opportunities to polish your skills, learn from experts, and connect with fellow music enthusiasts.
In closing, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude for being a part of our music community. Your passion and dedication continue to inspire us, and we are privileged to be a part of your musical journey. We wish you a joyous holiday season filled with music, love, and happiness, and we look forward to an incredible New Year ahead.
May the melodies of the season bring warmth to your hearts and inspire you to reach new heights in your musical endeavors!
Happy dulcimering,
Linda
