Dulci-Tune Hammered Dulcimer Accessory
by Steve Eulberg After using a pitch pipe, a tuning fork, a note from another instrument, then a Korg tuner with a tuning clip (which helps to isolate the pitches that are being tuned in the midst of a noisy room), I am so glad to see this new tool for helping hammered dulcimer players! Dusty Strings has partnered with Snark to create the perfect accessory for those of us who would rather play than spend all day tuning our instruments! New Teacher: Neal Hellman Mountain Dulcimer
DulcimerCrossing is pleased to welcome a new Guest Instructor to our roster: Neal Hellman. Neal has lived in the Santa Cruz, California area since the 1970's, when it was the epi-center of the west coast mountain dulcimer revival, in part because of the nearby location of FolkRoots and CapriTaurus dulcimer builders Michael and Howard Rugg. New Lesson Series is Coming!
Well, with many miles under our feet (Steve criss-crossing the county and Linda climbing the heights of Colorado), it has been a while since we've been able to give an update, but the wait is worth it! We had our Chattanooga instructor, Butch Ross, in the studio and his lessons on Looping are now in the editing bay. Take at look at a sample of his demonstration here:

Tips for Jam Survival
The Summer Festival season is fast approaching (can you feel the buzz of excitement in the air?) Many of us set aside our winter rhythms and venture out to play music with others in new settings: out of doors, at picnics and cookouts, at public parks, at the beach, at festivals, at week-long learning opportunities.
Some of us are also a little anxious about these meetings because we're not quite certain how we will survive when jamming with other people whom we don't know!

Kitty Puss at the Ozark Folk Center
While teaching at the Mountain Dulcimer Week at the Ozark Folk Center in the summer of 2009, Steve Eulberg performed this tune, Kitty Puss, which he learned from Don Pedi, in the midday concert. He is playing noter style on his Mike Clemmer dulcimer (with a doubled bass string). Video by Barry Bianchi.
This tune is an example of a traditional tune played on mountain dulcimer in the old-time style.
