About the Lessons

1. Introduction & Demo Vi shares a bit of the background for this tune, and then plays it at a medium tempo, the second time through an octave higher.
2. A Part, Phrase 1 The A Part start with an upward run that sounds a bit like a growl. You'll notice Vi takes liberties with the melody, but always keeps downbows on downbeats. Also note the drones he plays with the melody.
3. A Part, Phrase 2 The second phrase start with the same upward run. If you've ever learned to play "Turkey in the Straw," you'll notice the same musical phrase in this section.
4. B Part Both phrases of the B part start with a downward run.
5. Upper Octave Now Vi shows us how to play the tune an octave higher.
6. Things to Look For Vi brings our attention the the up-bow slur across the strings.
7. Up to Speed Giddy-up! In the last video, Vi encourages us to add some swing and bounce to it, and plays the tune through for us up to speed.
