About the Lessons
1. | Rhythm Introduction | Robert introduces us to the key to working on and playing rhythmically: Listening to the sounds in the world around us and what we hear in our heads. |
2. | Elements of Rhythm | Using a left hand mute technique Robert shows us how to isolate and hear better what the right hand is doing. He also demonstrates: Rhythm, Beat, Accent elements. He also introduces the Palm Mute technique with the right hand. |
3. | Pick Grip & the Right Hand | Robert describes the importance of his right hand pick grip to have balance as he strums. He also demonstrates a triplet strum as he strums up and down the fretboard. Utilizing different Angles of Attack help him to focus on the bass or melody strings. |
4. | Putting the Elements Together | In this episode Robert puts all the elements he has been describing together. He remembers focusing on trying to make his hand “disappear” as he focused on the rhythm of his playing. (And then don’t forget to relax and rest!) |
5. | Conclusion & Review | Robert wraps up this lesson set with a review with a reminder that our bodies are full of complicated rhythms that we use every day, what we are doing is applying them through our hands onto our dulcimers. |
