Play Like A Fiddler
Learn a fiddle tune, Up Jumped the Devil, and explore some of the ways that hammered dulcimer players can replicate the unique embellishments that fiddle players use. Techniques covered will include mimicking double stops through droning, eighth note runs, and phrases starting on the off beat.
Susana (soo-sah-nah) Baker is a hammered dulcimer performer and instructor from St. Louis, MO. Susana, who has been playing hammered dulcimer since she was 14, is the 2024 National Hammered Dulcimer Champion. She has taught and performed at Evart Fun Fest and Gebhard Woods Dulcimer and Traditional Music Festival. In 2025, she toured with Michael Martin Murphey and his Rio Grande Band as part of his Cowboy Christmas tour.
