VideoAbout the Lessons

1. Demonstration and Tuning Steve demonstrates this holiday favorite and shows us how to re-tune to DGd.
2. Chorus Melody Because the chorus is the most familiar part of the song we learn that first.
3. Verse Melody Now we turn our attention to the melody of the verse.
4. Verse an Octave Lower The DGd, like DAd is a tuning in which the bass string mirrors the melody string, so we can play the melody for the verse that we just learned on the bass string, using the SAME fret numbers!
5. Harmony Finally, there is a noodling position to find harmonies in this tuning as in other tunings, so we make use of it to dress up this tune.

  • This jazz version of Jingle Bells inspires me to think outside the box with chord progressions. The video demonstrates Synthesia, a software developed to teach people how to play the piano by watching falling notes. You'll have to see it to believe it!
