About the Lessons

1. Introduction This is an intermediate, level 2, fiddle tune in the key of G. First Vi plays through it for us.
2. A Part, Phrase 1 Since this is in the key of G, Vi suggests reviewing the G scale before starting the first phrase. If you want, you can play the D and A string together the whole time on this phrase.
3. A Part, Phrase 2 The 2nd phrase is rhythmically the same as the 1st phrase, but we switch to a D chord. So we have the same fingering pattern, but it's down a step.
4. A Part Together Now Vi plays Phrases 1 and 2 through twice. Notice the accent on the first downbeat of each phrase.
5. B Part, Phrase 1 There are two little phrases in this section, with the note pattern and the rhythmic pattern repeated like an echo. But Vi plays an F# the first time, and then plays an F natural the second time, leading to the C chord.
6. B Part, Phrase 2
and Together
Here Vi demonstrates "hooking the bow," i.e., going up with the bow twice.
7. Whole Tune Finally Vi plays the entire tune at a medium pace.
