VideoAbout the Lessons

1. Introduction Steve describes how he arrived at moveable or Portable Chord Shapes for the hammered dulcimer and how these shapes helped him play in 4/4 or common time.
2. Utah Giving credit to Linda Foley, Sara Johnson, and Linda Lowe Thompson for looking for shapes, Steve looks at how this one shape works and reminds him of the state of Utah.
3. Utah Major/Minor Now we look at the patterns and how their starting location determines whether they are major or minor.
4. Utah in the Key Using this one shape, it turns out that we can play the expected chords in several keys ( I ii iii IV V vi) six out of the seven chords we expect! This works very well for the Keys of D, G, C.
5. Portable Chord Shapes for A, adding the Ladder Shape In the Key of A, the Utah shape works until we get to the V or E Chord, then we need the ladder shape. We also learn the Root position voicing which is characteristic of the Utah chord shape.
