Title: The Myriad Dulcimer(1 hr)

Description:

Explore new dimensions of the fretted dulcimer through the lens of some of the world's music cultures. Sasha will introduce participants to some unusual modes (Indian raga & Turkish makam), odd meters (Indian tala and Turkish usul) and a few special techniques like alap (free rhythm), jhala (rhythm drone strings) and selpe (tapping)  from India and Turkey. These are cultures that he has studied in the countries of origin as well as with masters of the traditions in the US. Through exercises, traditional arrangements and an original piece by Sasha himself, players will get a small taste of these musical worlds and hopefully build inspiration to add some of these new elements to their own playing.

This is a mountain dulcimer-focused workshop applicable for all dulcimers.

DulcimerCrossing Workshop & Mentorship Level Subscribers have access to this Live Event and its archive video.
