VideoAbout the Lessons

1. Intro & Demo This is one of Vi's favorite old-time tunes, and crosses several different genres from old-timey Ozark style to Texas style, and even to bluegrass. The version in this lesson is on the beginner level.
2. Break It Down
Part A
This tune is played in the key of D. You will hear Vi use the single shuffle bow technique, which is a long short-short style of bowing
3. The "Tricky" Ending
for the A Part
The "tricky" ending is a variation of the "Shave and a Hair Cut" ending.
4. Break It Down
Part B
Vi works through the B part, note by note, and uses the single shuffle bow technique again. The last phrase of the B Part has the same tricky ending as the A Part. However, he also demonstrates a simplified ending.
5. Variations Here Vi teaches us how to play the drone along with the melody. It's a good idea to add that, to keep it interesting for your listeners as well as yourself.
