VideoAbout the Lessons

1. Demo Played completely through
2. A Part,
In the Box
The first way we'll play the A part of this tune is in the box. Note: this may require the doubling up of hammering patterns.
3. B Part,
Ladder Shape
In this segment we explore how playing the A part of this tune in the straight-up or Ladder or Big "L" shape works.
4. B Part,
In the Box
Now we learn the B Part of the tune, first by playing it in the box.
5. B Part,
3/5 Pattern
This time, we learn to play the B part of the tune using a 3/5 pattern that starts with the Left Hand.
6. Whole Song Now we put the whole song together, Parts A & B, using both patterns in the B section.
7. Ornamented In this lesson, we'll add the "Ruff" and "Triple" ornaments to spice up this tune.
8. Add Bass Notes In order to add Bass notes (a pedal tone) we're going to first learn when the chords appear, and then use that pattern to determine which bass notes to play and when.
9. Descending
Bass Line
Now we'll explore adding a descending Bass line in the B Part of the song.
10. Lower D Box Because this tune can play in the box, we can move it to the lower D box (between the bridges) and only need to add one dulcimer work-around.
11. Higher Octave This tune also plays well (in the ladder shape) in the higher octave.
12. Putting It All Together Here are all the parts put together in the full arrangement.
